An experienced attorney fighting for clients in federal criminal cases.

My friends and colleagues call me Tex. I’m originally from Fort Worth, Texas. I have been advocating for clients under investigation or criminally accused for my entire legal career.

The very first client I represented in trial 26 years ago was acquitted.  I have carried that early momentum and tenacious mentality forward in facing down the federal government on behalf of my clients. I have gotten investigations dropped, cases dismissed and sentences reduced. I have tried a federal case resulting in a not guilty jury verdict and walked my client out the front door.

Because I've handled hundreds of cases in Oregon’s Federal District Court, I'm familiar with the federal judges, prosecutors and probation officers. I have experience negotiating with specific federal prosecutors on a wide variety of federal matters.

As a post-conviction litigator, I handled two cases in the National Registry of Exonerations for clients who were wrongfully convicted of homicide charges. I am a nationally recognized trainer and coach for federal criminal attorneys and am a frequent presenter for attorney education events in the District of Oregon. I launched a private criminal defense practice when I became eligible for early retirement from the Federal Public Defender, opening an office a block from the federal courthouse the next day.

I believe in obtaining the best possible result based on the circumstances of each client. Every case is unique and my past results do not guarantee how your case will resolve.

Contact me for a consultation to see if I would be a good fit to help with your situation.
